Psalm 25:1-7
ESV
Teach Me Your Paths
Of David.
25 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long.
6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
He chose to place his trust in Yahweh to place his trust in God. When he says he lifts up his soul, it reminds me of surrender and trust.
Verse 3
He says that no one who waits on God shall be put to shame. I like the commentary by The Enduring Word Bible. Commentary: The idea of ashamed is not primarily embarrassment (though sometimes it is used that way). The primary idea “is that of being let down or disappointed or of having trusted in something that in the end proves unworthy of our trust.” (Boice) This is especially reflected in passages such as Romans 5:5 and Isaiah 49:23. ”
Verse 4-5
To me, speak about the what of the waiting. David was waiting for deliverance and help, but he was not merely just being passive and lazy. Instead, he desired for God to lead Him, teach him, and guide him.
His prayer is one I believe we should all cling to in times of waiting. David knew God was his salvation. Many times, David experienced rescue from God, and his testimonies of God’s saving power helped him to wait for God all day. He knew that God would never guide him to what would lead to compromise, sin, and failure.
Let’s pray with this Psalm and, like David, choose to place our trust in God and lift up our souls to him. Let’s also pray that during the time of waiting for God to teach, grow and prepare you.
