Psalm 5:1-3

Psalm 5:1-3
NKJV
A Prayer for Guidance
To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David.
5 Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my meditation.
2 Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God,
For to You I will pray.
3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.

David prayed to God early morning. There is power in praying to God first thing in the morning, you just arose while the earth is a bit calm and have the grace to see a new day.

God is delighted when we pray to God first thing in the morning. I want to challenge us to set an alarm. I want you to set an alarm 15 minutes from when you usually wake up and use those first few minutes to praise God, thank Him, surrender your day into His hands etc.

We as Christians shouldn’t wake up anyhow. We shouldn’t just wake up, immediately seeking our breakfast. Our delight and focus should always be to have God’s presence, to surrender our day in His hands.

If we neglect praying early morning, we can easily fall into neglecting prayer. We can easily not pray just because we don’t feel like it. Whenever I challenge myself to pray even when I might be tired or hungry, I notice I have such peace, I feel so filled and joyful knowing I prioritised God over my flesh.

We should prioritise God over our flesh, over our appetite and tiredness. We should make that extra effort to thank God and speak to Him early.

I want us to direct and order our prayers before God. I want us to have specific requests for God. I want us to ask God to use us today, ask Him to protect us from the agendas of the enemy, ask for His help against temptation and to thank Him for this new day.

I want us to ask the Holy Spirit to be our alarm. I want you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit living in you to help you fight your flesh to pray first thing. Ask Him to help wake you up, ask Him to help you prioritise Him and Seek Him above all else. I want you to know that you’re never alone but have a Helper, the Holy Spirit that is more than willing to help you live the way your spirit longs to live which is to live for God.

That desire to be a woman of God who prioritises God isn’t your own desire but God’s desire for you. He wants to help you achieve that desire by His power. It won’t be by your power or might but by the help of your Helper, the Holy Spirit that will empower you to seek God early in the morning.

A helpful tip is that if you feel far too sleepy, try getting out of bed and going on your knees. You can also worship first to help wake yourself up. This can help you pray more focused, so you aren’t distracted and praying half asleep.
