Stop going back to the things you prayed for God to remove in your life.
Wow. This quote is so powerful. I was about to watch a short sermon when this quote appeared.
Isn’t this so true? How many of us ask God to remove something and go back to it
It’s like we want Him to make sacrifice easy for us when it is already easy. We can’t keep submitting things to Him only to take them back.
We, as children of God, need to say no and not turn back. We need to stop going back to that sin. Stop going back to the gossiping and anger. Stop holding those grudges. We need to stop asking God to remove things just to go back to them.
We ask God to free us from sexual sin, yet we don’t watch what we listen to and even read. We can’t be praying for God to guard our hearts and help us walk in purity if we are watching and listening to things that contradict that desire. If we want purity, we need to watch what enters our minds and hearts. If we know some things are tempting us, some things are bringing us to a place of sin we should shut that door.
When we don’t shut these doors, we give the enemy access to come and mess up our lives. We give him access to distract us and pull us further from God, and in that place of backsliding, we are allowing the strongholds that once held us bond to now start forming once again.
Jesus has set us free, and in Him, we’re free indeed (John 8:36), but I want us to take note of what Jesus said to the woman who committed adultery.
John 8:9-11
9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
Jesus told this woman that He doesn’t condemn us, meaning that He is merciful and forgiving. He doesn’t condemn us for our sin, but He does tell us to go and sin no more.
We are set free by the Son, but we are also told not to go back to what He freed us from.
