John 15:15 says, “I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.”
About 4 years ago, I spent the holiday with my aunt and went to her Church. I remember eating and laughing and singing but not much else but one thing was said that stuck with me.
It’s that God is as real of a being as any friend is. We were encouraged to speak to God with the fluidity and confidence with which we spoke to anyone else. I found it so strange because they encouraged us to sit on a chair, pull a chair for God and tell Him about our day.
But now, I get it. Because indeed I have a friend in Jesus and He cares about what happens to me much more than anyone else does.
God wants you to ‘cast all your care upon Him’ and it can be rather uncomfortable speaking to someone distant about what bothers you. It’s more likely that you can talk about bigger things with someone you can talk about trivial things with.
So the challenge today is to simply…Â Talk to God.
Sit on a rocking chair with knitting needles and yarn and tell Him about the shop you went to. Lie on your bed, staring at the ceiling and tell Him about the test you just did. Go on a walk and tell Him about a song you just discovered.
God is all capable, all knowing and all present. So make sure to give him reverence and speak with respect like you do to people you care about. But never forget He’s also your Father. Go through your day talking to God, knowing full well that He’s listening to you.
Because He always is.
